Government needs to let go of processes

In iBestuur magazine number 6 of April 2013, an article was published on the inescapable network society titled "Government needs to let go of processes".
The network society is inescapable. The service government needs to let go of its time-honored hierarchy and fixed processes and should focus on the rules.

Faster innovation with rule-based BPM

In Business Information Magazine of March 2013, an interview with Jeroen van Grondelle, research director at Be Informed, was published. The publication can be read online here.
In situations with little variability and much stability you are fine with pre-thought and pre-defined processes, says Jeroen. But in today's network economy, more and more situations require flexibility. So it's time to make way for semantic model-driven processes.

Business (Re)design with Be Informed

Be Informed implementations prominently feature something called a business design. It is a graphical representation of what an organization does. It includes stakeholders, registrations, the various case types, interactions, channels, products, and so forth.

Model-driven business applications: just add rules

“Just add water” is a well-tested recipe for consumer goods and medication. All the nutrition, vitamins and active ingredients are there, and it is up to the consumer to mix it to their taste and needs. Model-driven business applications work in very much the same way. They contain all the standard components and structures to get you started quickly, but they continuously reconfigure to adapt to specific strategic, customer or regulatory requirements.

Case-oriented approach IT-projects in Public Sector

Within the Public sector, there is a world to be gained by another approach to IT projects, says Frank Buytendijk of Be Informed. By thinking in similarities instead of differences, governments can achieve constructive and successful solutions, he says. ‘The question is not why projects fail, but what we can learn from projects where you hear little about: the successful projects.’

The Post-moderne CIO

During their annual Symposium, Gartner introduced three important themes: we live in the era of post-modern business, CIOs need to embrace the principle of creative destruction and we need to look for simplicity.
The best way forward lies not so much in fighting complexity, but learning how to handle it.

Public Policy Making - The 21st Century Perspective

Over the past decades, many reforms in government have been aimed at increasing efficiency, effectiveness and value for money with very little focus on the actual policy process and the way it affects the ability of policy makers to meet the needs of constituents in an increasingly complex, uncertain and unpredictable world. However, if this core process were to be modernized, it would yield considerable economic and social benefits, including enhanced productivity, openness, transparency. This book provides a thorough analysis of the importance of modernizing and synthesizing the policy making process.

Process management in administrative factories is lagging behind

Be Informed has combined its views on business processes in a business process platform, despite the general assumption that business processes are well taken care of. “That may be true for the industry,” says CEO Rik Hoogenberg, “but once you take a close look at what we call the administrative factories, you’ll get the fright of your life.”
